Zen's dark desk setup — Shanghai, China

S·0049 · Zen · Shanghai, China · 2025

In their own words

Desktop setup isn't about the price of a specific device; it's more about whether it fits well into my desk environment and serves a high utility. My personal suggestion is to first consider whether a device plays a crucial role in your work or entertainment and then think about aesthetic aspects.

Observation notes

Desktop setup isn't about the price of a specific device; it's more about whether it fits well into my desk environment and serves a high utility.

Zen's three monitors, plus a Wacom pen display angled in front of the keyboard, all run the exact same wallpaper — a single abstract light-curve image repeated across every screen in the room. A color-grading control surface with trackballs and jog wheels sits front and center, next to two full-size mechanical keyboards, making the desk read as a post-production bay before anything else.

Deep blue ambient lighting fills the room, with a Nanoleaf hexagon panel glowing on the side wall and a boom mic swinging in from overhead. Two cameras — a rangefinder-style body and a Fujifilm mirrorless with a prime lens attached — sit out on the desk rather than packed away, ready to go straight from shoot to edit on the same setup.

Zen's own philosophy is about utility over price tag — whether a device earns its place by function first, aesthetics second — and a desk built around actual post-production tools, not just displays, backs that up directly.
