Shi Miao's dark desk setup — China
In their own words
If you're looking to create the perfect desk setup, you can start by browsing Bilibili or YouTube for inspiration. Look for videos or images showing desk setups that catch your eye, and take note of the key elements that make them stand out. Once you've found a few setups that you like, think about how you can adapt them to your own needs and preferences. Don't be afraid to mix and match elements from different setups, or to add your own personal touches to make your desk setup truly unique and functional for you.

Observation notes
If you're looking to create the perfect desk setup, you can start by browsing Bilibili or YouTube for inspiration.
Shi Miao's black desk runs on a Hexcal Studio shelf and Hexcal monitor arm — both branded openly, one edge-lit with a built-in strip that washes the desk surface white. An LG ultrawide sits on the arm above a white keyboard and mouse, wallpaper reading "essentials" over an astronaut photo, a quiet joke against a desk this deliberately stripped down.
A framed iPhone teardown diagram leans on the shelf, and a LEGO Astro Boy figure stands guard beside a trailing potted palm at the desk's walnut-edge corner — the one collectible allowed into an otherwise all-black, all-function build. The plant's leaves brush right up against the model's red boots, the only soft material anywhere in frame.
Shi Miao's own advice tracks directly: invest in cable management first. With this much gear routed through one shelf, none of it is visible — the discipline is the point.
